Welcome to Wurman Studios.

This is a temporary page while my site is being upgraded, just covering some web projects. Email me if you are interested in more information.

I have worked for years in graphic design, and when the internet came along, in web and multimedia design as well.

I have always been interested in 'Information Architecture', and was there when the phrase was coined, by my own father. I like to put the clients needs first, their uses, and their budgets are what drives any project. Pretty is good, useful is better, combining the two is my goal.

My list of clients is fairly long, I will say that the largest of them would be TEDConferences. In addition to producing the conference, I designed and maintained the TED website from the first in 1991, through 2003. This led to many interesting and (at the time) breakthrough sites with many interesting corporate partners, and amazing production teams. One of the most interesting, unfortunately not active any longer, was the TED11 webcast. This site, built in 3001, contained nearly four gigabytes of streaming video, and was made from 'off-the-shelf' components. It was also published during the conference, with a 2-3 hour delay. Not bad for 2001 technology.

Some other sites are listed below:

UNDERSTANDING

This site was to translate the book UNDERSTANDING from print to the web. It was an interesting project as it contained chapters by 10 of the top graphic designers in the world, contain 5 hours of video, and had to be released in 1 month, on a shoestring budget. Luckily I was backed up by a great team at R/GA in building this site.

UNDERSTANDINGHEATHCARE

Another 'book-to-web' site. More cohesive in design then the last, but again a challenge since the site was being sponsored by a major healthcare provider. The easy flash solution would not work with a large number of older, and public access computers, so the entire site had to be built with rather primitive html standards. In the end, with another great programming team, we succeeded. Translating a 300+ page print book, into a backward compliant, useful website.

TRA Studios 1 TRA Studios 2 TRA Studios 3

A few screen snaps from a website now in production for TRA Studios Architecture.

This has been a great project for me. The clients are extremely design sensitive, both so that their own architectural style comes through, but also because they are former employees of Vignelli Associates (a client of mine for more then 2 decades). We settled on a very formal grid, that mimics the facade style of many of their buildings. In addition, the entire site is upgradeable, through an easy to use content management tool developed for their use.
